Texas Monthly Custom Publishing recently acquired Ride Texas Magazine, a Texas-based motorcycling quarterly publication. They redesigned the entire magazine, and contacted us to help give their ride maps a new, richer look and feel.
We worked closely with the art director to develop a style for the maps that incorporated their design ideas into a new overall look that is more visually compelling than the previous versions of the maps, while also improving the accuracy and legibility of the maps.
We generated the background images in a three-step process with Natural Scene Designer and Adobe Photoshop, then added the route information in Adobe Illustrator. A similar but custom process was used for each map so the maps maintained a relatively consistent feel, despite some dramatic differences in terrain.
